I'm a little worried about our injury situation. I wonder if this means Horak will be getting called back up?

Against a team like CBJ I think most teams should play a smart game that at the very least takes them to OT and gets the one point. With no real long break, trying to get that one point and then beating CBJ seems the way to go.

Get all the points you can with as little risk. Pretty much what I hope for Sunday against CBJ after playing Detroit Saturday.

Pretty sad when you have more guys on the IR than waiver pickups by Garth Snow.

In all fairness it is a condensed schedule.......the Flames are doing their best to catch up in the injury department though, standings too!

Would be nice if condensed schedule was the reason, but it isn't.

Eager, punched in the face.
Fistric, rammed his ass into the boards on a missed hit.
Horcoff, puck off the knuckle
Belanger/Lander, pucks off the feet.
RNH, a bit of condensed schedule issue, but him being thinner than a school girl is the main issue.
Jones, fluke puck of the face during lockout.

the rebuild will be going on for at least 3 more years... But I guess everyone else in the league would of won 2 cups already since you know the Oilers have been rebuilding for the last 2.5 years and STILL haven't won......

11 guys on the IR... that's crazy.

At least (outside of RNH) they're not really core guys...

We don't have the volume, but the impact of our injuries is pretty severe...

Kipper, Cammy, Backlund, Baertschi

That's a starting goalie and 3 of our top 6 forwards... I'm glad we have some depth, but I really hope none of these guys are out for long.

I think we'll need him to play Center with Backlund out.

Cammy I see back for Saturday. Backlund no idea, Baertschi either Saturday or shortly after...and Kipper one week.

That's what I assume.

"Irving definitely proved himself last night making 26 saves and I would imagine the Flames took note."

I wouldn't go as far as to say that he "proved himself." He played good enough to preserve the win. That said, I think if Irv is given the chance to get in a flow of things he will steadily get better. Hopefully he goes into VAN with confidence knowing that he has beaten them before.

I would like to see Taylor but I think Irv needs to keep playing.

I wanted to see the Backs, Cervenka, Hudler line and I got it last night. Up until Backs injury, it looked really good. That shoulf be the 2nd line although I did like Backs with Stemp & GlenX as well. Backs seems to be leading the charge regardless of what line he is on.

TJ just gets better and better. He looked great last night! He and Wideman have been a good pairing.

Stemp continues to roll. Maybe he is hitting a new maturity level and gaining more confidence in his abilities.

VAN will be a big test, especially to our depth now with all the injuries.

Although I see your point, winning that game was big for Irving as he works to gain not only the fans approval, but also the approval of the coaches.

If you read Yost's blogs about advanced stats Backlund has been driving the play for the last 2 years. Whenever he's on the ice the puck moves in the right direction. He was pretty snakebitten last year in terms of his impact on the score sheet but he definitely drives play up the ice and playing with good linemates should translate into more scoring (provided the injury isn't severe).

Yep, I agree with that. He made some nice saves and more importantly, he made them when he had to.

I think Irv may be the kind of goalie that needs a lot of starts in a row. That doesn't bode well for a back up to Kipper. If Kip is out for a bit though, it may be the time that Irv needs to really prove himself.

The difference this year being that he is the guy charging the net and looking for shots and plays instead of gaining control and then dishing it off to someone else or taking a weak shot. Your right, he has been driving the play the last couple of years. I've seen plenty of write ups on those stats. But he has elevated his efforts this year.

The play where he got hurt looked pretty harmless. If that little hit caused a knee injury Backs has bigger problems. It looked more like a hip pointer to me but who knows?

I agree, he's playing much more confidently this year. It's making a world of difference.
